Nail-gun murderer executed
JIA Jinglong, from the northern province of Hebei, who was found guilty of murdering the head of his village committee in 2015, was executed Tuesday after the Supreme People's Court (SPC) upheld his death sentence.
Shijiazhuang Intermediate People's Court, acting on the execution order signed by the SPC president, executed Jia. The court allowed Jia to meet with his family before his execution.
Jia was sentenced to death by the Shijiazhuang court on Nov. 24, 2015.
He was convicted of murdering He Jianhua, head of Beigaoying Villagers committee in Chang'an District, Shijiazhuang, with a modified nail gun on Feb. 19, 2015. He was acting in retaliation for the demolition of his house as part of an wider renovation project, the SPC said in a statement.
On May 17, 2016, the Hebei Provincial Higher People's Court rejected Jia's appeal and upheld the death sentence after a second trial. The court passed Jia's case on to the SPC for verification and approval.
Jia's crime is "extremely serious" and his method was "extremely cruel and has extremely vile impact on society," according to the SPC.
