Nails hammered into boy's head
A woman in an eastern China city committed suicide after hammering two nails into the head of her boyfriend's 10-year-old son.
The boy, identified as Ming Ming, is critically ill in a coma after surgery at a hospital in Qingdao, Shandong Province, news portal China.com.cn reported yesterday.
The two nails, one of 10 centimeters and one of 8 centimeters, have been taken out of his head, but Ming Ming may not survive as his brain is significantly damaged as a result of the woman strangling him last Thursday.
The woman, surnamed Yang, who lived with her boyfriend and Ming Ming for seven years, was found lying on a bed foaming at the mouth at their home by the boyfriend's brother.
The woman had apparently drunk pesticide. A rope was tied around the boy's neck but there was no obvious bleeding.
A hammer was spotted beside Ming Ming. For fear Yang might have hit the boy with the hammer, his uncle ordered a scan, which revealed that two nails had been driven into his head.
His uncle said: "How could she bring herself to commit such cruelty?"
Yang died despite being rushed to the hospital, according to the website.
