Naked man on bridge yields to witty fireman
A man suffering mental disorder climbed to the top of a bridge in Dongguan, Guangdong Province yesterday, walked around naked and claimed he was Monkey King, a character in the Chinese classic, "Journey to the West."
The man paced up and down on the upper ridge of the bridge during morning rush hours. Police closed the bridge and readied air cushions, causing serious traffic jams, the Southern Metropolitan Daily reported today.
The man refused to climb down as firemen edged towards him and continued to brag about his supernatural powers, the report said.
One fireman was quick-witted and said he was Xuanzang, the monk who went on the journey to India for Buddhist sutras accompanied by Monkey King. "I am your master and I want you to follow me," the fireman was quoted as saying.
Hearing this, the man joined his palms and followed the fireman down the bridge.
Traffic was restored immediately and the man was sent to a hospital, the report said.
