Name that dish – for 600 yuan
TOURIST officials in south China's Guangzhou City are offering rewards for English translations of the region's famous food dishes to help foreigners who visit the city's Asian Games next year.
The menu covers the most characteristic 69 dim sums in Guangzhou, including savory porridges, sausages, steamed dumplings, and vermicelli rolls, according to today's Southern Metropolis Daily.
Winners will not only have the honor to name the dim sums but will win up to 600 yuan (US$87) for their contribution.
A Website has been set up for users to post their translations at www.liwantour.com.
The host of the US reality show "Yan Can Cook" will be the judge of the names.
"Bosses in the city are always calling for our help when foreigners in their restaurant can't read their menus," said Liang Dong, the head of Liwan District Travel Bureau said as quoted by the news paper.
