Nanjing blast kills at least 5, hurts 300
AN explosion at a plastics factory killed at least five people and injured more than 300 in east China's Nanjing City this morning when the blast flattened buildings.
The blast happened about 10:30am after a propylene pipe caught fire, with flames leaping more than 10 meters high, China National Radio reported.

The fire is now under control in the factory, and chemical firefighters have entered the plant. The blast flattened almost every building near the plant and the air is still thick with choking smoke.

At least 300 people were taken to hospital, with 28 of them in critical condition.
The impact of the blast could be felt all over the city. Shock waves broke windows of nearby homes and cars within 100 meters were seriously damaged by flying rubble.
