Nanjing massacre films pass censors

TWO movies about the massacre of Chinese citizens in Nanjing in 1937 have been passed by government censors in Beijing.

Director Lu Chuan's "City of Life and Death" and the Chinese-German co-production "John Rabe" both had to make changes.

Lu said censors had asked for changes to a couple of violent scenes in "City of Life and Death," which looks at the killings through the eyes of a Chinese soldier, a Japanese soldier and a foreign missionary.

Tang Jingting, of Chinese production company Huayi Brothers, said censors had asked for changes to one or two shots in "John Rabe," about a German businessman who protected the Chinese. "John Rabe" is due for release in China on April 28.

Lu said he was still working on the soundtrack of "City of Life and Death."
