Nanning people hiss over lake pollution accident
ENVIRONMENT authorities in Nanning, capital of south China Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, are under fire over concealing facts for two weeks after a big lake was tainted by tons of sewage leaking from a broken pipeline damaged during a tunnel construction project.
The public did not learn about the pollution until large amount of dead fish were seen floating on the lake, reported local Xiaoxiang Morning Herald today.
The public were enraged because they were kept in dark. They were questioning the local government what actions it had taken to control the pollution after the accident took place, or if it had started investigating the cause and responsibility of the accident.
