Nanning police hunt for killer after man shot dead

A man was shot dead in the head yesterday morning in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and police are still looking for the gunman.

The man was killed under a bridge near the campus of Guangxi Medical University in Nanning, the regional capital.

People living nearby said they heard a big bang at about 3:30am yesterday. "It sounded like a tire exploded," said a resident surnamed Deng who was watching television in a hotel about 100 meters away.

Police arrived 10 minutes later and confirmed the victim was shot by a gun. Nanning police are still investigating the case.

A hotel security guard surnamed Liang said police began checking video footages recorded by surveillance cameras in the area. A vehicle took away the man's body around 6am yesterday.
