National Museum sign confuses 'exit' with 'export'
THE newly built China National Museum started to check and rewrite the English signboards in the museum after one exit signboard was found a glaring translation error, Xinhua reported today.
A man wrote on the Twitter-like Weibo.com that he saw an English signboard at the exit of the museum was translated as "export" because the Chinese words for "exit" and "export" are the same. "It's such a ridiculous mistake," he said last week.
The museum's assistant curator Dong Qi responded in his Weibo yesterday that they have conducted a check on all the signboards and new ones are being made.
"It's impossible for a new museum to have no defects," said Chen Lusheng, another museum official. "But we're doing our best to solve the problem. We already proved that we can build a top-class museum in the world and we will prove again that we can run it well."
