National security probe

TAIWAN resident Lee Ming-che is under investigation on suspicion of endangering national security, a Chinese mainland official said yesterday.
“Developments of the investigation, in line with judicial process, will be disclosed in a timely fashion,” said Ma Xiaoguang of the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
“The mainland will protect the legitimate rights and interests of all Taiwan residents who come to the mainland as long as they abide by regulations and laws,” he added. Ma noted that a 2016 document stipulated special arrangements for the use of probation and community correction for Taiwan residents on trial on the mainland.
