National team paraglider dies in 100m free fall
A Chinese national paragliding team athlete died in a training accident yesterday afternoon at a base near Fuyang, a city of eastern Zhejiang Province.
Yang Xiaoqiang, 20, failed to finish a difficult mid-air stunt and fell to the ground from a height of 100 meters high, witnesses said.
He succumbed to severe injuries despite emergency treatment, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
Yang, a native of Hubei Province, won a silver medal in the 2011 World Paragliding Championships in the Czech Republic, the best score for Chinese paragliding athletes.
He was selected by the national team last June.
