Nations with shared aims
CHINA'S President Xi Jinping (above) shakes hands with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the Boao Forum on Asia yesterday.
Xi said China and Australia can become friendly partners pursuing common development, as the two countries share an increasing amount of interests and responsibilities amid constantly changing international and regional dynamics.
Gillard said Australia was devoted to developing a mutually beneficial partnership with China and hoped to become a reliable supplier to China, while widening cooperation in areas such as agriculture and financial services.
The nations should expand bilateral investment and try to reach agreement on free trade as soon as possible, she said.
