Nations work together on north Asian cruise

TOURISM bureaus in China and four neighboring countries are planning a cross-border cruise around the Sea of Japan.

Bureaus from China, Russia, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan and the Republic of Korea are working together on the project, officials with Jilin Province Tourism Bureau told China News Service today.

The new cross-border cruise will start from Huichun city in Jilin Province. Passengers will visit Vadivostok in Russia, Rason in DPRK, Sokcho in the Republic of Korea and Japan before returning to China, the report said.

The cruise ship will travel at night and call ashore in the daytime for passengers to visit the sights.

"The current problem is that the five countries don't have a unified tourist visa policy," said officials with Jilin bureau. But bureaus will take some measures to solve the problem, the report said.

Jilin Province has seven frontier ports and dozens of cross-border travel lines now. More and more tourists are traveling to Russia and North Korea through the province.
