Nepal鈥檚 envoy gushes over stellar economy

China鈥檚 continued economic growth is important for global economic growth, prosperity and stability, according to Leela Mani Paudyal, Nepal鈥檚 ambassador to China.
China鈥檚 impressive economic growth will bring more funds, technologies, people, know-how, as well as more markets to Nepal, he said.
In 2017, China鈥檚 GDP grew 6.9 percent year on year and its contribution to world economic growth stood at around 30 percent, according to the communique on economic and social development released by China鈥檚 National Bureau of Statistics on February 28.
The ambassador said that China鈥檚 impressive economy has been able to grow continuously without any setbacks because of the reform and opening up policy. As China pushes for a new pattern of all-round opening up, Nepal will have more access to its technology, funds and markets, he noted.
The ambassador said he visited China for the first time in 1999. He highlighted the impressive changes in China, saying the 鈥渆xpeditious expansion of high-quality infrastructure鈥 is unimaginable and marvelous.
He also said he was deeply impressed by China鈥檚 technological advancement and innovation, citing the example of the high-speed train. He said the high-speed train used to be 鈥渁 very aristocratic mode of transportation鈥 in the world before China entered the business.
But now with China鈥檚 technological advancement and innovation, it has become a common mode of transport.
Nepal and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative in 2017.
