Netizen detained for spreading rumor about flood deaths
A NETIZEN has been detained in southwest China's Sichuan Province for spreading a rumor online that a local reservoir collapsed in floods, killing more than 70 people.
The man, surnamed Huang in his 30s, was detained yesterday by Bazhong City police for fabricating facts to disturb public orders, today's Chengdu Business News reported.
Huang posted a correction on Friday, saying he published the fatal flood post on July 24 after learning from some people on the street that flooding crushed a reservoir in Bazhong's Chenhe Town, drowning more than 70 people.
Huang apologized for spreading the rumor, adding that the reservoir was only partially damaged and the casualties were around 10.
