A MAN beheaded a vegetable seller in a knife-wielding rampage through a town center in southern China yesterday, killing her and injuring two others the day after his wedding in Hainan Province.
Police caught the suspect, Wu Haiping, 29, at a telephone store in Lingshan Town of Haikou City, capital of Hainan, after he was cornered by villagers.
Wu had allegedly cut the woman's head, left arm and part of the right arm off and stabbed another woman's hands and a man's throat, today's Haikou Special Zone News reported.
Both injured are out of danger, according to doctors at Lingshan's clinic where they were treated.
Police didn't say whether Wu was mentally ill, though villagers said he was a quiet person who had got married the day before.
Wu, a native of Lingshan, was seen running into the crowded town center yesterday with kitchen knives in his hands, chopping everything and anyone he happened to see, villagers told the newspaper.
The dead woman was Chen Lai'er, 40, also from Lingshan native. She is survived by her husband, parents, two daughters and a son. Selling vegetables was the family's major income source.
Wu quarreled with his parents yesterday morning and tried to beat his mother with a wooden plank, neighbor Wu Duofa told the newspaper.
