New regulation covers Party officials鈥 鈥榙uty of care鈥
THE Communist Party of China’s leadership yesterday adopted a regulation on officials’ duty of care.
They must be held responsible for serious consequences caused by negligence or poor performance that undermines the Party’s governance and harms people’s interests, said a statement issued after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Party’s Central Committee, presided over by Xi Jinping.
The new regulation introduced an internal Party accountability mechanism which can be applied across all levels and divisions, the statement said.
It also covers officials in leading or supervisory roles who are required to be faithful, clean and responsible.
The key to realizing the “Chinese dream of national rejuvenation” is that Party organizations at all levels, and leading Party officials, should perform their duties for the Party and the public, the statement said.
The leadership ordered Party departments to ensure the regulation is implemented effectively and called on superiors to lead by example.
In particular, the Party will hold officials accountable for failing to implement Party guidelines and policies as well as reform measures, to make sure the Central Committee’s orders are carried out, the statement said.
