New wanted poster in sentry killing case
POLICE in Chongqing Municipality have released new pictures of a man wanted for questioning over the shooting and killing of a sentry on March 19.
Posters featuring six images of the suspect were distributed in Chongqing's. Four of the images were from video clips while the other two were pixilated.
The pictures show an average sized man in a long-sleeved white top with his face covered by a grey balaclava. He carried a white plastic bag in which was the automatic rifle he had taken from the dead sentry.
Chongqing police also published the rifle's registration number 鈥 13161360 鈥 and said there were no bullets in the gun.
Police have doubled the reward to 600,000 yuan (US$87,780) for information leading to the arrest of the killer. In addition to the 300,000 yuan reward the municipal bureau has offered, police in downtown districts are offering another 300,000 yuan.
Police thought the suspect might have had military training or once served in the army. They believe a trained soldier was involved and distributed a wanted poster showing pictures of a man in uniform on April 7. That poster featured four pictures of a marching soldier and two mug shots.
The 18-year-old guard, who was identified as Han Junliang, was killed at 7:42pm on March 19 outside a People's Liberation Army garrison in Chongqing's High-Tech Industrial Development Zone,
The municipality's public security bureau said this was an anti-terrorist investigation and launched a city-wide crackdown on illegal firearms and explosives.
Chongqing's judicial authorities also urged all criminals in the municipality to surrender to police and said lighter sentences would be imposed.
