Ningbo mayor’s ‘violations’ spark probe
LU Ziyue, mayor of Ningbo, a major eastern Chinese port city, is being investigated for alleged serious disciplinary violations, the country’s top anti-graft body said.
The 54-year-old’s last public appearance was on Febuary 26, the final day of Ningbo’s annual parliamentary and political meetings. He was said to have been taken away by the authorities the next day, Legal Evening News reported.
His downfall is reportedly linked to the disgraced political adviser Si Xinliang, who is said to have cultivated a large circle of influential friends, including political bigwigs and entrepreneurs, through his connection to Gu Liping, wife of the fallen Politburo member Ling Jihua, it reported.
An insider, whose name wasn’t disclosed, told the paper that Lu was suspected of offering a bribe to Si, formerly vice chairman of Zhejiang’s political consultative conference.
Si was handed over to prosecutors after he was found to have abused his power by accepting a hefty bribe and committing adultery.
The paper also reported that Lu, who became Ningbo’s mayor and deputy Party chief in May 2013, had been given an apartment in downtown Shanghai by an unidentified businessman.
The Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection also announced yesterday that Wang Yang, a senior legislator in northeastern Liaoning Province is under similar investigation on suspicion of a “severe violation of discipline.”
