No bomb in Beijing mall after email threat

BEIJING police have ruled out the possibility of any bomb being put inside a shopping mall in Changping District following receipt of a bomb threat email.

Police announced this afternoon that staff members of the Carrefour outlet in the Longde Square shopping mall received a bomb threat email about 9 am today.

The blackmailer demanded 50,000 yuan (US$8146.70) and said explosives had been placed inside the store, police said.

Police evacuated all the people inside the building and searched the site.

Police said the search was completed by the afternoon with no evidence of a bomb discovered.

The shopping mall reopened while police investigation was still underway.
