No compromises, says Taiwan leader
TAIWAN leader Ma Ying-jeou says there will be no compromises over Diaoyu Islands sovereignty.
"We will never compromise on it," Ma said while addressing an academic symposium in Taipei yesterday. If the parties agree to shelve their differences and focus on fishing resource negotiations, it will be conducive to regional peace, Ma said.
Two Taiwan coast guard patrol ships have sailed to waters near the islands. The ships were there to demonstrate the coast guard's ability to protect local fishermen, a spokesman said.
