No danger of contamination over the next three days

CHINA will remain unaffected by radioactive materials leaking from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Japan over the next three days, according to the latest analysis released yesterday.

The report from the National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee was citing the latest weather forecast from an emergency response center in Beijing, which is affiliated with the World Meteorological Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency. According to the State Oceanic Administration, no abnormal signs have been detected in seawater off the Chinese coast and the waters will not be affected by radioactive fallout in the next three days as the current off the coast of Fukushima is flowing southeast.

In addition, air-monitoring results across the country remain normal, the report said.

Meanwhile, radiation has been detected on fava beans imported from Japan to Taiwan, Taiwanese officials said yesterday.

A small amount of iodine and cesium had been found on a batch of Japanese fava beans imported last Friday. The amount was not harmful to human health, officials said.
