No poisoning reported following supermarket alert

POISON was not detected in the blood of four people who brought food products that were believed to be poisoned in a Guangzhou supermarket.

A woman surnamed Ou brought rice at the Trustmart in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, on January 3. She and her two sons and another customer demanded blood tests though they had no symptoms, local New Express Daily reported today.

Police have detained the man who allegedly put rat poison in rice, fish, mushrooms, meatballs and noodles in the supermarket on January 3 and 4 to blackmail the supermarket for money.

About 200 people shopped in the supermarket on January 3 and 4 and about 70 of them brought the tainted products, Lin Yongsheng, official at Guangzhou Food and Drug Administration, told the newspaper.

Customers who brought the poisoned food have been urged to return the food as soon as possible, local government said in a statement.
