No respite from smoggy skies
The Forbidden City in Beijing is shrouded in heavily polluted air yesterday as the PM2.5 index reached 467, which is considered hazardous. Cities across China have been hit by intense air pollution in recent years, much of it caused by emissions from coal-burning power stations. In Shanghai, foggy weather is forecast to continue in some districts today while haze might gradually ease in the coming days. The mercury is set to drop to as low as 4 degrees Celsius this week.
