Not dead, just cooking ...

SIX days after she had been put in a coffin to await burial, a 95-year-old woman in China's remote Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was found cooking in her kitchen.

Li Xiufen lives alone in a village in Beiliu City but is looked after by a neighbor, Chen Qingwang.

On February 17, Chen went to Li's home with breakfast and found her motionless in her bed. Li didn't seem to be breathing although her body was still warm. But he figured that was because of the thick quilt that was covering her.

Chen and his son held a funeral for the woman and placed her in a coffin on February 19. According to local custom, burial was set for February 24.

However, on the morning of February 23, Chen and his son found the coffin open and the body gone.

They got the shock of their lives when saw Li in her kitchen cooking.

"Why did you put me in a coffin?" she said. "I felt hungry when I woke up so I am cooking something to eat."

A doctor said Li had been in a coma after a fall in which she sustained a brain injury.
