Nude resort ordered to cover up
A NATURIST swimming resort in Zhejiang Province was told its patrons must wear swimsuits the night before it opened as the authority described its business as "indecent."
The resort in Lin'an County received the order on Friday night, before its official opening the next day, its developer Xu Fake told today's Oriental Morning Post.
Xu told the newspaper the authority described the business as "indecent."
He said officials probably did not understand the concept of his nude swimming resort. Public nudity remains a taboo in China while naturism has its root in Western culture.
Lin'an tourism bureau declined to comment.
The resort started to promote the nude swimming business early this month, sparking a heated discussion across the nation.
The resort is the second attempt by local people to create a naturist tourist site. The first nude pool in Lin'an opened five years ago but was closed two weeks later due to fierce public criticism.
The latest resort consists of two 300-square-meter natural ponds halfway up a mountain, one for men and one for women. The women's pool is 100 meters from the men's and they are separated by a thick bamboo grove.
Security guards are stationed nearby to chase away Peeping Toms.
