Nude waitresses went on the bill

NETIZENS have been outraged by government officials who spent public money at a Hunan Province hotel that offers nude waitresses as part of its services.
By yesterday evening, the post that published 12 receipts detailing the claims on yianya.cn had attracted 220,000 hits and 1,800 comments. Many linked it with the official recently killed by a karaoke bar waitress in Hunan's neighboring Hubei Province. Both scandals have sparked concern about government officials' lavish spending on entertainment and even pornographic services with public money, today's New Culture newspaper reported.
Local disciplinary authorities have launched an investigation into the receipts. They have promised to publish the results of the investigation, the Changchun-based newspaper said.
The Web posting showed 12 detailed receipts for a variety of bath services at the Wangsheng Hotel in Qidong County. The hotel is a designated venue for the county's Hongqi Reservoir management office to entertain clients and government officials.
The receipts detailed services provided to local financial and water authority officials, including nude waitresses, according to staff at the hotel's baths center.
The receipts, which ranged from a few hundred yuan to more than 1,000 yuan (US$146), were paid by reservoir officials, mostly by Li Guanghui, the reservoir's former Party secretary, and Xiao Bing, the former office manager.
Li has been moved to another department and Xiao has retired, according to the reservoir's current Party secretary Chen Xuefeng.
Chen, who took over as Party secretary in March 2007, told the New Culture that the Hongqi reservoir was in financial difficulties. It made a yearly gross profit of less than 10 million yuan, which made it hard to cover the salaries for the 340 workers.
Netizen "Crow 79" mocked that "our officials have already worked so hard for the people. How can it be fair to have them pay for relaxation activities like this?"
