Nurse, 30, in ICU following knife attack
A MAN has been detained on suspicion of attacking a nurse with a knife in Kunming, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, authorities said yesterday.
A 30-year-old female nurse at the No.1 Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University is in intensive care after being attacked while on duty on Sunday night, the city’s public security bureau said.
A 33-year-old man surnamed Zhang has been taken into custody in connection with the incident, the bureau said.
Police said they are investigating claims that Zhang suffers from a mental illness.
It is believed the nurse did not know her attacker, they said.
In a similar incident on Friday, a doctor at the Fujian Provincial Hospital in Fuzhou, was also subjected to a knife attack.
The doctor is said to be in a stable condition, and an 84-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of carrying out the attack.
Police claimed the alleged attacker said he carried out the assault as he was dissatisfied with the outcome of a surgical procedure carried out on his vocal chords at the hospital.
