October 'golden week' is nearing
PEOPLE in China will enjoy a seven-day National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, but compensate for their extended holiday, they have to work on the weekend days of October 8 and 9, according to a State Council announcement.
October 1 is the National Day of the People's Republic of China, which will turn 62 this year.
During the seven-day holiday, all public services will be closed and a variety of festivities, such as firework displays and concerts, will be held. Landmark buildings will be decorated with lights.
National Day holiday and the Spring Festival are two "golden weeks" when many Chinese use the extended holiday for family reunion, outbound travel and shopping.
