Official fired over sexual harassment allegations
A GOVERNMENT official in Shenzhen City has been sacked after he reportedly sexually harassed a hotel bellhop during a trip to Taiwan.
Li Pingshan, deputy Party secretary of Longgang subdistrict, was sacked for discipline violations and is being investigated, the Shenzhen government announced on Thursday.
Li, 35, was drunk in a hotel restaurant in Taipei last Sunday when he sexually harassed a 20-year-old bellhop, said TVBS, a Taiwan TV station.
Li asked the bellhop to help him to his room, but he pulled the young man into a toilet on the way, the report said. He then touched the bellhop's private parts and said he had a lot of money. The bellhop shouted he was not a homosexual and managed to escape, according to TVBS.
Li told officers he unintentionally touched the man while drunk, the report added.
TVBS said Li paid the bellhop NT$180,000 (US$6,012) to settle the incident.
