Official hopes to clear name
AN official in central China asked for a thorough investigation into himself to clear his name after a diary detailing his alleged corruption and indecency circulated online.
The diary was written in the first person and first appeared on Tianya.cn, a major online forum. Although the diary used initials for locations and names, the online community found the person's career path matched that of Tan Zhiguo, deputy director of the Public Security Bureau of Enshi Autonomous Prefecture in Hubei Province.
The diary, dated from March 1999 to August 2010, recorded instances of corruption and bribery, as well as extramarital affairs with several women, Chongqing Morning Post reported yesterday.
Tan has requested an investigation into himself to prove his innocence, accusing the compiler of the diary of making up the whole story for revenge. Tan said he would accept any punishment if he was found guilty.
Tan said he was not sure who wrote it but suspected it was done to defame him.
Li Yunkai, director of Enshi's Public Security Bureau, said based on an initial investigation, the diary was not written by Tan. Zeng Xiangguo, who was identified in the diary, was the former director of the public security bureau and was earlier put under police investigation.
