A COUNTY official in north China’s Hebei Province has been tried for allegedly accepting bribes of more than 100 million yuan (US$16.2 million), local judicial authorities said yesterday.

Bian Fei, ex-Party secretary of Daming County, was tried at the Intermediate People’s Court in Shijiazhuang.

He was accused of taking more than 59.3 million yuan in bribes, while 42.9 million yuan of his assets could not be accounted for, prosecutors said. The court has yet to deliver a verdict.

Bian’s driver is also facing charges of accepting bribes and withholding evidence.
