Official in probe dies of injuries, wife says
A GOVERNMENT official at a city in Henan Province died with a fractured skull and bruises across the body when being interrogated in a colleague's corruption probe, his wife told yesterday's Beijing News.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of his death, Xu Guangjing, vice secretary-in-chief of Dengzhou City's Party committee, told the newspaper.
He confirmed that Liu Yunfeng, 43, official with Dengzhou Construction Bureau, died in the inquiry.
Liu was called for questioning in a corruption investigation involving his superior on Monday morning, his wife Mei Lixin said.
His family lost contact with him until the next morning when a family member was informed that Liu was seen dead at Dengzhou No.3 People's Hospital and transferred to the city's funeral home.
