Official regrets rude words after replying caller 'Has your mother just died?'
Authorities in Luchun County, southwestern Yunnan Province, are investigating allegations that a local health official replied a caller in a rude manner, today’s City Times reported.
An unidentified man made several phone calls to the Luchun County Health Bureau on November 3 but all his calls were hung up instantly. Later he received a text message from a bureau worker surnamed Li, saying, “Has your mother just died?” The caller felt offended and posted the message on the Internet.
Li said he was at home at that time and kept receiving calls forwarded to him from his office phone and he refused to answer them because he was afraid of phone fraud.
“The calls came from Zhejiang Province and the man was speaking Mandarin,” Li said. “I received fraud calls before and I didn’t answer them.” He conceded that he forgot he was on duty that day.
The official explained the matter in a letter to the disciplinary authorities in the county and expressed his regret. The investigation is still ongoing.
