Official sacked after nursing home slaughter

A TOWN official was sacked yesterday after a mentally disabled man killed five people at a nursing home under his supervision.
Guan Tianfu, the former head of civil affairs in Banqiao Town, in central China's Henan Province, was sacked and his deputy Wang Dazun replaced him, China News Service reported today.
Hu Binghui, a 60-year-old mentally disabled man, killed five roommates at the aged home on February 19 and attacked a nurse. He had lived there since 2007 and was said to have knifed someone in 2008, but the official failed to take precautions.
Relatives of the victims criticized the home's management failures, saying only seven people were in charge of 74 people, often leaving them unattended at night.
