Official sacked over lung scandal

AN official in charge of health inspections in central China's Henan Province has been sacked after a worker had his chest opened to prove he had a lung disease.

Geng Aiping, vice health director and chief of health inspection in Xinmi City, had been responsible for health issues at the brick factory where Zhang Haichao once worked, the China News Service reported yesterday.

Zhang, 28, resorted to surgery to prove he suffered from pneumoconiosis.

Three doctors at the Zhengzhou Occupation-related Diseases Control and Prevention Center had their licenses on pneumoconiosis diagnosis revoked because of the scandal.
