Official says 'twin lottery tickets' possible
A LOTTERY official said it is possible the computer-chosen numbers on two lottery tickets can be identical, responding to some Netizens' suspicions over the latest sports lottery.
A ticket owner from southwestern China's Sichuan and another from central China's Henan Province won the top prizes on November 16 with two identical numbers. Each got a jackpot of 7 million yuan (US$1.02 million).
Both said they had their ticket numbers chosen by computers, today's Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
What's more surprising is the pair also had two another pairs of identical numbers.
The Sichuan native bought five numbers in all and the Henan resident got three. They made the purchase 23 seconds apart on November 16 at 6:03pm.
Some Netizens thought something was amiss with the computing system.
But an unnamed official with Guangdong Province's sports lottery center denied anything was wrong and said it was possible the computer system could pick the same numbers, although slim.
Identical computer-chosen numbers always existed but most didn't win prizes, he added.
The state sports lottery center didn't respond to the newspaper over the identical numbers.
