Official scotches Quanzhou quake rumor
AN earthquake official in southeast China has dismissed rumors of a likely quake in Quanzhou City on August 13.
Such predictions are unreliable as few earthquakes have been accurately predicted worldwide based on current technologies, China News Service cited Fu Jianguo, director with Quanzhou City Earthquake Administration, as saying.
The earthquake rumor started with an online post, and many migrant workers in Fujian Province have asked for leave to return to their homes, the report said.
Earthquake rumors have been common since the Sichuan earthquake that killed nearly 70,000 people on May 12, 2008 with another 18,000 people missing.
