THE former vice mayor and the former police chief of northern China's Datong City are being investigated for covering up coal-mine accidents, local discipline authorities said yesterday.
Former vice mayor Wang Yanfeng and former police chief Shen Gongyuan are suspected of taking bribes from mine owner Li Kewei.
They are the highest-ranking officials disciplined after supervisory officials began an investigation in December 2008 into the cover up of coal-mine accidents which killed 13 people.
