Officials Quit Over Storm Actions
TWO senior Taiwan officials resigned yesterday to take responsibility for the government's slow response to Typhoon Morakot, local TV stations said.
The stations ETTV, SETN and TVBS reported that "defense minister" Chen Chao-min and the government's secretary-general, Hsueh Hsiang-chuan, tendered their resignations.
Hsueh came under fire for attending a lavish dinner two days after Morakot slammed the island and then defending the move on a TV talk show.
Chen was criticized over the military's slow response to the storm.
