Officials cheat to get second child
THE children of officials accounted for a large portion of disabled children in a list published by a central China city's government, sparking suspicion they had faked their children's disability to have a second child.
Fathers of nine out of 23 disabled children are government officials in Lengshuijiang City of central
China's Hunan Province, according to a list made public by the local population and family planning commission, Chongqing Evening News reported yesterday.
The high proportion of government officials on the list aroused netizens' suspicions over whether they had faked the conditions of their children's health to get the right to have a second child.
A netizen said most of the disabled children were girls, judging from their names. When discussing this with colleagues, he was shocked to learn that although some were disabled, others were not.
People can have a second child if the first one is classified by doctors as disabled and unable to work, an official with the local family planning authority said.
