Officials penalized for selling farmland to developers

NINE officials in northern Hebei Province were punished or sacked after investigation showed thousands of acres of farmland had been illegally confiscated from farmers and sold to real estate developers.
Zhang Guijin, mayor of Xianghe County, received "a major demerit" and is likely to lose his post after final review. Zhou Chunhua, director of Xianghe County Land and Resources Bureau, was sacked, today's People's Daily quoted the Hebei Provincial Department of Supervision as saying.
Other seven officials, including a vice mayor, received punishment including removal and warnings.
