'Officials raped 12-year-old'

THREE local officials are said to be among four men alleged to have raped a 12-year-old girl in Lueyang County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

An online post claimed a village Party secretary, surnamed Wei, and two township officials, surnamed Jiang and Zhao, raped the schoolgirl, seriously injuring her.

The fourth suspect is alleged to be a highway contractor.

The post sparked outcry in Lueyang County.

Four men are being held in connection with the case. However, police have not named them, the Chinese Business View reported yesterday.

The alleged rape took place in a local hotel on October 26, after the men are said to have got drunk at a dinner.

A colleague of Wei said he couldn't contact him on his cell phone the next day and that Wei and his friends had disappeared.

Some town officials claimed that another three or four teenage girls were raped in the incident. However, police confirmed only one victim.

The girl is receiving treatment at a local hospital, according to the newspaper. Doctors would not comment on her condition.
