Officials sacked over mine disaster
A DEPUTY mayor and other four government officials in northwest China have been sacked for negligence of duty after a coalmine blast killed 28 workers last week.
Miao Zhengxing, former deputy mayor of Hancheng City, Shaanxi Province was dismissed for being accountable for the fatal accident on July 17, according to a statement by the city government reported by China News Service today.
Also sacked were Song Shaomin, the chief engineer, Guo Wenwu, the head of safety inspection, Zhang Shengwei, the deputy engineer and Wang Yuan, the director of mine production, for illegal operation of the mine and failure in supervision.
The city government also advised that Li Ming, deputy director of the coal mine bureau, should be removed from office.
