Officials told to rein in spending
CENTRAL authorities have warned officials to rein in spending and luxury gifts during a season known for over-consumption.
The circular, issued by the general offices of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, stressed that officials must remain frugal and not be tempted by corruption.
Officials were also reminded that unwarranted bonuses, banquets or galas, trips to private clubs, entertainment or travel financed with public money were strictly banned. Officials were also told not to amble or use public vehicles for personal purposes.
For the past two years, the central authorities have issued warnings to officials ahead of various holidays. China will soon celebrate two of its most important holidays, New Year’s Day and Spring Festival.
