Officials use 'work meeting' to cover up HK trip

TEN civil servants in northwest China's Shaanxi Province lied about their eight-day trip to Hong Kong and Macau and said they went to Xi'an, the provincial capital to attend a work meeting, Huashang News reported today.
The 10 health officials in Baota District of Yan'an City did not report to the district government before the trip. Their lie was exposed by the city's discipline inspectors.
An investigation is still ongoing to find out whether they traveled at the public expense.
The Baoshan District Health Bureau director, whose name was not revealed, said their trip was self-funded. The bureau arranged the trip for the 10 officials because they had not taken a vacation for several years.
