Oil smuggling rings busted in Shenzhen

CUSTOMS officers in south China's Shenzhen City have cracked two smuggling rings and seized 75,000 tons of oil products valued over 400 million yuan (US$59 million).

More than 300 customs officers and policemen took part in two separate raids on July 30 and 31, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported today.

They detained 19 ring members and confiscated 75,000 tons of oil products, worth 140 million yuan in tax money, the paper quoted a Customs spokesperson as saying.

The rings were engaged in rampant smuggling in Huizhou and Shenzhen areas, the Customs officer said.

So far this year, Shenzhen Customs have busted 44 oil smuggling cases, involving more than 3.5 billion yuan. Four smuggling rings and nearly 200 members were caught.
