Old wiring blamed in bus fire that killed 1 in Xinjiang
AGING wiring caused a public bus to catch fire yesterday around noon in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, causing at least one death and injuries to six people, Urumqi officials said.
The bus caught fire suddenly around 11:35am on Guangming Road in Urumqi, according to rescuers, who added that six injured people were taken to local hospitals by emergency responders.
Witnesses said that other injured passengers sought medical treatment on their own.
About 20 passengers were on the bus when the fire occurred, said the bus driver, who was injured in the fire.
The fire was extinguished, leaving the charred frame of the burned-out vehicle.
