Olympic champions lose academic game
TWO Olympic champions are facing possible dismissal from a key university in central China because they failed to earn enough credits for their Master's programs.
Yang Wei, the individual gym gold medalist in 2008 Beijing Olympics and Gao Ling, winner of the most Olympic medals in badminton, seemed to lose their academic game after their college listed them and other 305 graduate students as "would-be dismissed" for their failure to finish study within four years.
Yang, who five years ago enrolled in the School of Administration and Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei Province, said he didn't know about the dismissal, today's Changjiang Daily reported.
He said he will try to get in touch with his school to find out.
Gao, who entered the school one year earlier than Yang, said she was currently working on her Master's paper and would contact her tutor as soon as possible.
The college authorities said they published the list on August 30 to remind these students of the status they were in. Students who felt the result unjustified should communicate with them in writing before September 23.
