Olympic champions on university dismissal list
TWO Olympic champions are facing possible dismissal from a university because they failed to earn enough credits for their master degree courses.
Gymnast Yang Wei, the individual gold medal winner at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Gao Ling, winner of the most Olympic medals in badminton, are included in a list of more than 300 post graduate students as "would-be dismissed" for their failure to finish study within four years.
Yang, who enrolled in the School of Administration Management at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei Province five years ago, said he didn't know about the dismissal, yesterday's Changjiang Daily reported. He said he would try to get in touch with the school to find out what it was all about.
Gao, who enrolled at Huazhong a year earlier than Yang, said she was currently working on her master degree paper and would contact her mentor as soon as possible.
College authorities said they published the list on August 30 to remind students of their current status.
Students who felt the result unjustified should communicate with school in writing before September 23.
The university's dismissal list comprises 1.7 percent of its 17,694 post graduate students, most of whom didn't meet the minimum academic performance requirements.
